This is a turdans with five turs. It is inspired by French dances from the 1700 and 1800s and is reminiscent of the formal English set-dances because of the formation (four couples dancing in a square) and all the bows and acknowledgements build into the dance itself. It is a part of the Styldans set dances which have been kept alive in many Norwegian dance communities.
The recordings are from the Noregs Ungdomslag cd, tracks 14-19 that accompanies the “Red Book” a nynorsk compliation of dance instruction, music, and history. You can find the full catalog of music and dance resources available through the Noregs Ungdomslag here.
We most recently taught this dance at the Camp Norge Folkedans Stevne in October 2017.
